Speech of Mr. Bo Xilai at the EU-China Business Summit 2006
2006-09-15 12:15  MOFCOM

Minister of Commerce Mr. Bo Xilai attended and addressed the EU-China Business Summit 2006 and full text of the speech was as the following:

Distinguished Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen and Premier Wen Jiabao

We are particularly honored that Chinese Ministry of Commerce, China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Finland Ministry of Foreign Trade and Development sponsor together the 3rd session of EU-China Business Summit and invite so many outstanding entrepreneurs.

Theme of my speech is "Innovation, Cooperation and New Start", to which the Summit lives up. During the meeting of Chinese and EU leaders, Premier Wen Jiabao and Jose Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission, launched together the negotiation of a new framework agreement, which marked a new start; EU-China trade in 2005 broke through the goal of US$200 billion, another new start realized; besides, we noticed that EU's GDP and total aggregate of trade in 2005 exceeded that of the US, becoming the first biggest economic entity in today's world, which was the third new start.

Premier Wen said that the prosperity of EU was in accordance with the interest of China, on the other hand, Mr. Barroso said that a stronger China brought huge opportunities to EU. The two sides believed that prosperity of the two parties was in favor of development of themselves. Standing at the new start, we will certainly be led by the thought of mutual benefit and win-win to a higher platform of cooperation.

The Summit was held in Finland, indicating the spirit of innovation. In 2005, Finland was appraised to be the country with most competitiveness worldwide according to the global economic forum. And I believe that it is not occasional, Finland adhered to the position of free trade on both textile trade in 2005 and anti-dumping against Chinese shoes in 2006, and took a fair attitude to Chinese products. Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen said that facing with China's rising, the best way is was to enhance cooperation rather than to uphold protectionism. Chinese entrepreneurs were due to make friends with such countries.

Even through we are far from each other, Nokia has been very popular in China, when Chinese people using mobile phones, they can't help thinking of Finland, and Helsinki, and even the blue sky and cloud here.
