On September 10, Minister Bo Xilai met with Costa Rican Minister of Foreign Trade Marco Vinicio Ruiz and Turkish Minister of State in Charge of Foreign Trade Kursad Tuzman in Beijing. The two sides held an extensive exchange of views on Sino-Costa Rica and Sino-Turkey economic relations.
While meeting Mr. Ruiz, Minister Bo noted the positive state of China-Costa Rica trade, with the trade volume of 2006 between the two countries reaching 2.16 billion US dollars, up 87.3% from the year before. A number of progresses, in investment, labor, project contracting, etc., had been made in the past few years. The establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Costa Rica was bound to create new opportunities for bilateral economic cooperation. The agreement on bilateral investment protection, the agreement on trade and the feasibility study of free trade area, which were well underway now, would become three bedrocks for bilateral economic ties.
Mr. Ruiz confirmed the importance of economic relations with China. With the large scale of infrastructure building going underway in Costa Rica, Mr. Ruiz welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest in his country and participate in the construction of road, airport, port and in key industries such as refinery, telecom, and food processing.
In his meeting with Mr. Tuzman, Bo pointed out that China-Turkey economic relations had marched into a new era, with trade volume steadily growing and big cooperation programs launched. China had an advantage in infrastructure building and manufacture industry such as automobile and household electric appliances. Mr. Tuzman expressed his optimism about the prospect of China-Turkey economic relations. He welcomed Chinese enterprises to go to Turkey and invest in the manufacturing of turbine engine, exploration of mineral resources and the construction of small-size hydropower station.
