Minister Bo meets with Congo Infrastructure Minister

Beijing (August 19)--Minister Bo Xilai met with Pierre Okongo, Minister of State for Infrastructure, Public Works and Reconstruction of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in areas like infrastructure, trade, and project contract.

The economic ties between China and Congo underwent rapid growth in recent years, with a trade volume reaching 400 million US dollars in 2006, Minister Bo was quoted as saying. The huge potentials of the two economies promise better and more extensive cooperation.

Congo was experiencing a period of economic reconstruction, particularly in infrastructure and the exploitation of mineral resources, Okongo said, and Congo welcomed Chinese investment in these areas.

Bo pointed out that, in recent years, Chinese enterprises had gained considerable edge in the construction of roads, bridges, railways, ports and power stations. The good management of Chinese construction teams and the reliable quality of their work gave them an advantage in international competition.

Minister Assistant Chen Jian and officials from the China Import and Export Bank attended the meeting.
